OK. I know I’m on a bit of a Craigslist kick right now but I’m not gonna feel bad about it. In fact, I’m just going to post whatever I please, whenever I please from here on out. I’ll try to keep you up on the up and coming events and places and such. But this is my little corner of the world. And I wanna play. If only I knew how to play piano…

I bought this piano about three years ago at an estate sale in Beverly Hills. Almost everything in this house was pink (including the appliances) except this piano. It’s a small upright covered in a white leatherette. I caould totally see this piano somewhere like the dresden room! It features black studs as decoration and a mirrored keyboard back. So Cool! It needs tuning, some of the key tops are missing and there are some marks on the leatherette. No tears though and I think that there are products that would take care of that. It measures 55″ long, 43″ tall and 23″ deep. Don’t miss this, you’ll probably never see another one like it!

my neighbor’s eyes have been popping out for many years looking at this creature on my front porch…I have to move and these must find a new home. I have two of these and they are over 100 years old. These are referred to as museum mounts and the frame work is made from the original bones. The skin is falling apart but the structure is in good shape. I had intended to eventually have them stripped down and replace the skin with faux fur or have them flocked with velveteen. The saddles and leather work are not part of this offer but they are also for sale.

Did you know that Broadway in downtown Los Angeles was meant to be our take on the Big Apple’s theater district? And at one time it was the only place one would want to go to see live shows and movies? While many of those old theater and film palaces are long gone, a lucky few still remain.

I just got notice for the dates and locations of the 23rd Annual Last Remaining Seats. This event presented by the Los Angeles Conservancy gives us all a chance to see some of the most magical old theaters that Los Angeles has to offer. Many of which are very rarely open to the public at any other time of the year.

The first time I met my friend Kathy J. she was helping me climb onto a three foot tall planter on a sidewalk during the Mummers parade in Philadelphia, so that I could see over the five person deep crowd along the curb and into the glorious feathered Mummery marching down Broad St.

Since then we have had a moonlit picnic on the sand next to the Santa Monica Pier, gone for rides on the Ferris wheel and sought out Dip n’ Dunk photobooths in seedy arcades on the streets of downtown L.A. We have also discovered a mutual love for all things bacon.

Kathy J. has recently gone so far as to create little felt bacon creatures whose misadventures she documents on her blog ‘What Do Bacon Do?‘

She asked if I would be a contributor and with delight I received my bacon in the mail yesterday accented with glitter lips. I ran in the house with my new found glory and the misadventures began in minutes. This could be a very dangerous past-time.

That didn’t go over so well even though everybody in the family secretly agreed. Christmas dinner at your house got cancelled that year. And the Oregon Diner is where the whole family ended up. On separate sides of the room of course.

It’s starting to feel a little bit like spring in Southern California and I for one am looking forward to pulling out the summer dresses and playing on the beach in a two piece.

In the meantime, I have some exercising to do. I’ve found a blast from the past at the local rec center and I am super excited to pull out the one or two leotards that I have left and getting down with the ladies at Jazzercise. Oh…I think I even have a pair of white tights!

It’s official! The first Cinespia Cemetery Screening is going to be Billy Widler’s Ace In The Whole starring Kirk Douglas, Jan Sterling and Robert Arthur. And Saturday May 31st will be Blake Edwards The Party starring Peter Sellers and Claudine Longet.

Please take note on a few things from a seasoned CCS attendee. Arrive early! The diehard fans begin to line up around six o’clock. While that might sound like a drag, you can bring a picnic and sit on the grass in line and relax and catch up with your friends before heading in. This will also allow you to find free street parking close by. If you arrive at the last minute, you may not find street parking and the lot may be full. It has happened and friends have had to go home. Also be sure to bring warm clothes as it gets frigid in the cemetery after the sun goes down. See you there!

Mrs. McGrath is traveling west from downtown L.A. with new watercolors to Billy Shire Fine Arts in Culver City this weekend along with fellow artist Scott Musgrove. Since I’ve actually oogled over Elizabeth before, I’ll give you a little background on Mr. Musgrove. Not only does this Seattle resident work with paint and wood, he’s also a freelance illustrator, cartoonist (published by Fantagraphics Books and Dark Horse Comics) and creator and producer of the animated TV series Fat Dog Medoza on the Cartoon Network UK.

I personally am in love with his wood carvings! Check out the nose and the lips.

I’ll never forget the first time I moved to Los Angeles in the eighth grade and the taco trucks rolled onto the playground at lunch. For a girl from Jersey who was used to pizza on Fridays in a cafeteria lit by florescent lights, this was a whole new world.

As an adult, I’ll pull over to a taco truck on the side of the road in the wee small hours of the morning for carnitas sopes. Or sometimes I stop by the one parked in Temescal Canyon in the afternoon before I take a long bicycle ride down the coast. Which makes my taco guilt free!

Whether you randomly pass them in an abandoned parking lot after hours or seek them out on The Great Taco Hunt, it’s really hard to imagine the taco trucks not being around. They are a part of the California lifestyle that I have become accustomed to since that first day on the black top at Emerson Junior High.

The ride is about 10 miles long and we will be visiting 7 different gardens, starting at Eco-village, going through Chinatown and ending back up at Rosewood garden. We’ll go at a leisurely pace, as Sundays dictate.

Santa Monica Ferris Wheel Is Rolling Away To Oklahoma

It’s true. They are dismantling the world’s first solar powered ferris wheel on the pier in Santa Monica. It will come down on Monday and it is being shipped off to it’s e-bay winner in Oklahoma, a real estate investor who had the highest bid at $132,400.00.

This Sunday, Pacific Park is offering free rides on the wheel and will donate one dollar for each person who takes a ride on that day to Los Angeles Chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Pacific Park is also donating half of the winning bid to the Special Olympics of Southern California.

They expect the new $1.5 million dollar ferris wheel at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier to be up and running by May 22nd.

Sorry. That was crass wasn’t it? But it’s true! Pamela is having a giant estate sale this weekend in Malibu. While the ad is up on Craigslist, she also has a website for the event. It looks like she is purging her shabby shiteous belongings as well as fishing and snow equipment, a jacuzzi tub, her bathroom fixtures and a six passenger Chrysler global electric car. Whoa. Bathroom fixtures?

For those who want to check it out, be aware that it starts at 7am tomorrow and you have to meet at the shuttle bus to get to the sale. Hmm… I know she lives in the Colony so does that mean they are bussing people into one of the most expensive private gated beachside communites in Malibu? Damn her neighbors are going to be pisssssed. Say hello to Johnny Carson for me!

Dark Hand & Lamplight
Presented by Family Books

Toronto-based visual artist Shary Boyle aka Dark Hand and musician Doug Paisley aka Lamplight first came together as an opening act for Will Oldham’s 2006 tour of California (under his Bonnie “Prince” Billie moniker.) For the project, Lamplight wrote a collection of new songs, which Dark Hand used as the basis for a new series of artwork. Then, Dark Hand created artwork that Lamplight next used as the basis for new instrumental compositions and improvisations. In a live setting, the duo’s collaborative performance features Lamplight singing and playing guitar while Dark Hand creates live drawings and animates pre-drawn images on an overhead projector. Choreographed to the lyrics and music, Dark Hand projects her artwork onto a screen, the wall, Lamplight, and other available surfaces. For the first time since their original tour, the duo return to California to give a rare performance including their original favorites and new, never-performed material.

The Los Angeles Conservancy has announced it’s schedule for the 22nd Annual Last Remaining Seats series screening from May 28 to July 2nd in the cities oldest movie palaces. Two films, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes at the Los Angeles Theater and Mildred Pierce at The Million Dollar Theater, have already sold out.

Before you scoff at the price of admission, keep in mind that these are theaters that are either no longer open to the public or no longer screen films. You are paying the price for preserving some of the greatest architecture in Los Angeles. It’s worth it.
