Mitsuwa Marketplace is a gigantic Japanese grocery store located in Edgewater, NJ. For those of us that live in NYC you know that most grocery stores are teeny tiny. Well, imagine a bigger than suburban size grocery store filled with crazy Japanese food, plus a food court and you’ve got Mitsuwa.
There are also a few stores in the plaza that sell Japanese books, cosmetics and house wares.

The house ware/toy store was my favorite. One side of the store carries dishes, chopsticks, and little figurines.
The other side of the store carries fun stuff like toys
and erasers and of course tons of Hello Kitty.
I got a little teeny fake taco dinner set and an awesome pair of Japanese schoolgirl shoes.
Once we were done there, we headed over to the grocery store.
Maybe it’s just me but I really can’t get enough of Asian markets. I had to look at everything just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Here were some of my favorites.
One interesting thing is that for some reason you can’t buy small appliances in Bergen County NJ on Sunday.
If you want a rice cooker on Sunday I’m sorry you’re out of luck. But if you want some sake – that’s fine if you buy it after 12. I’m still trying to figure that one out.
Unfortunately I had a giant brunch at Schiller’s Liquor Bar that morning and wasn’t able to try any food from the food court but it looked awesome. What was more awesome was the fake food that was on display to use as a menu.

I’m such a sucker for fake food.
